Relationship Counselling
Relationship counselling is about Working with couples, families and other groups based upon the principles of Systemic Psychotherapy. The aim is to treat the relationship between individuals as opposed to the individual.
Systemic/ Relational Therapy is very useful for working with the many problems that can occur in families, whether they involve couples, parents and children, or children among themselves. However, it can be adapted for use in situations outside families, e.g. among friends or in work – anywhere that people relate to one another.
As well as relational and family issues, systemic therapy is also useful for many areas of personal stress, such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, panic attacks, distress related to sexual orientation and so on.
The first goal of the therapy is to arrive at an articulation of the present difficulty. Strong emotions sometimes come to the fore however every attempt is made to structure the sessions so that they do not become intolerable to those involved. In the presence of a trained therapist, words may be found to resolve the situation so that the relationship can survive and grow.
