What Is Teen Counseling?

Teen counseling is a form of therapy specifically designed for young people, typically between the ages of 12 and 18. It gives adolescents a safe, judgment-free space to talk about what they’re going through and gain tools to better understand and manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.

Common issues we help with include:

  • Depression or low self-esteem
  • Peer pressure and social struggles
  • Family or relationship conflict

How do I know if my child is depressed?

During teenage years your child is going through significant changes and it can be difficult to differentiate between normal behavioural changes and more concerning ones. Some signs to look out for include some or all of the following;

  • Extreme Crankiness or Anger.
  • Continuous Feelings of Sadness and Hopelessness.
  • Social Withdrawal.
  • Being more Sensitive to Rejection.
  • Changes in Appetite, Either Increased or Decreased.
  • Changes in Sleep (Sleeplessness or Excessive Sleep)
  • Vocal Outbursts or Crying.
  • Trouble Concentrating.

While the symptoms listed above can be alarming for any parent, other symptoms are a significant cause for concern. For example, teens may start to self-harm, worry about death, and may even attempt suicide. If your teenager has started to exhibit behaviours like these, please seek immediate support for them.
